Halloween Treat Your Self

10/31/2008 12:00:00 AM

This Halloween was pretty cool. I enjoy seeing the faces on people, the smiles and laughter, the playful interactions, which were the result of clever and creative costumes being worn around town.

This Halloween was pretty cool. I enjoy seeing the faces on people, the smiles and laughter, the playful interactions, which were the result of clever and creative costumes being worn around town. The adults especially seem to really get into this holiday, as it is a chance to be child-like, to be silly and dress up without embarrassment or judgement from others. And of course, there is the opportunity to give our selves “permission” to indulge in a little candy or other sweet treat.

I am not going to lecture on the hazards of eating sweets and candy, but rather say, “good for you” if you had fun and enjoyed some treats you normally abstain from. We have enough guilt about all the choices we don’t make, the need to lose weight, to exercise more, and foods we shouldn’t be eating. Too many diets are about excluding or eliminating foods we enjoy. I hope to share some insight on ways to make better choices, educate you about the foods you can add and include in your diet (not just those to restrict or eliminate), and help identify healthier alternatives and new products which not only taste good, but are good for you.

So I hope you enjoyed all of the trick or treating, hit a few parties or spent time with your kids, and always remember that by making healthy choices more often, you also get to treat yourself more frequently.
